Tentative steps to initiate traffic calming at Baskin

TENTATIVE early steps are being taken to initiate a project to calm traffic on the busy Baskin Lane in Kinsealy. Following a motion laid down by Cllr Alan Farrell (FG), calling for a public consultation process to begin on installing traffic calming measures on the lane, the council's transportation department said it would undertake a study of traffic speeds and flows in the area. The transportation department said: 'Baskin Lane is quite an important road in terms of traffic function given that it links the Malahide Road with Clonshaugh Road and the Airport. Similar to most other roads in the area it is subject to a 60kph speed limit. 'Baskin Lane is over 2.5km in length and, while it has intermittent development over most of its length, the main concentration of dwellings is over a distance of 750m or thereabouts centred on Baskin Cottages.'

Plans for 200+ new houses in Drynam rejected

[fingal indo reports] REVISED plans to build more than 200 homes on the outskirts of Swords has been shot down by the planning appeals authority on the grounds that it would ‘give rise to a low standard residential environment’. Albany Homes has lost out on its bid to construct the new estate, close to Drynam Hall, Melrose Park and Kinsealy Downs, after An Bord Pleanála upheld a decision by Fingal County Council to reject the plan.

A previous application for 205 units had been granted permission by Fingal County Council but the revised application sought to build 214 units.

In its decision to refuse permission, the county council considered that the additional units had been added at the expense of the previously well designed groupings of houses.

Flooding in Aspen Drive, Kinsealy Fingal Failure!

Sinn Féin Rep for the Howth/Malahide ward Colm Ó Murchadha has learned while canvassing in Kinsealy that residents of Aspen Drive, whose homes suffered extensive damage as a result of flooding last August, are experiencing difficulty insuring their homes. One resident has been told by insurers that they will not insure her home for a period of 3 years. “While residents were satisfied with the council’s efforts following the flooding, they are left in a situation where their homes will remain uninsured for 3 years, which is completely unacceptable” said Mr Ó Murchadha, who is calling on Fingal County Council to engage with residents to overcome this problem.



Anti-social behaviour at Mount Drinan Lawn, Kinsealy

Following a canvass of Mount Drinan Lawn in Kinsealy it was brought to the attention of Local Sinn Féin Rep Colm Ó Murchadha that a temporary entrance to the estate, which was created to allow access to the show house during the construction stage, is still open and is the cause of major concern to local families. The entrance has insufficient street lighting and has become a magnet for anti-social behaviour. Mr. Ó Murchadha has called on Fingal County Council to close this entrance as planning permission was never granted for it, or alternatively if the entrance remains open, it should be improved so as to discourage anti-social behaviour. He has also stressed that the wider issue of anti-social behaviour in the area needs to be addressed and calls for more investment for youth facilities.

As the economic crisis worsens and following the emergency budget at the beginning of the month the urgency to address the issue of Management Companies remains very high. The majority of residents object to paying the charge as a matter of principle. Now with rising direct & indirect taxes, pay cuts and job losses many more cannot afford to pay!. It is an absolute disgrace that the Fianna Fail / Green Party government has failed despite promises to bring forward legislation to deal with the injustice of estate management fees.  
On the completion of a residents door to door & postal survey of homes in Drynam Hall, a public meeting will discuss the findings and the way forward for the majority of residents seeking the removal of the management company. If you can get along please join us.

Graffiti clean-up

The council has agreed to help clean up graffiti at the entrance to The Park in Kinsealy as soon as Cllr Eoghan O’Brien (FF) helps identify the site of the problem. The commitment follows a request from the Fianna Fail councillor to have the problem at The Park addressed. Meanwhile, similar graffiti problems on O’Hanlon’s Lane in Malahide will have to be addressed by locals because the problem is on private property, Cllr Peter Coyle (Lab), was told by the council’s environment department. However, the department are willing to help out residents with advice and materials for the cleanup.
