SeeClickFix Fingal Howth Malahide

April 22nd, 2010 by admin

Came across new website which is part of new trend for 311 websites and mapped based local report a fault sites. Where citizens can like broken street lights, potholes dumping etc..
www.seeclickfix.com is similar to fixmystreet.com A number of theses sites have been set up to work with US cities and the UK but this is first one I’ve seen that works anywhere. I’ve added in Fingal and Howth Malahide watch areas. You can add a SeeClickFix widget straight to your own site as a list as I have done on my sidebar or as Map page and people can report faults on it from there. This info can be outputed in various formats Csv,xls,GeoRss,KML,/XML,JSON etc. I guess I could aggregate it back to categories posts on my blog.

mysociety is handcrafted to email the relevant council depts directly, Im presuming this is carefully arranged as to make it productive relationship, which would really encourage people to use it. It would take a while for the local council to pay attention and respond to seeclickfix reports. Seeclickfix was first used by Dublin resident 10 months ago and has not a few reports since it obviously hasn’t spontaneously caught on. fixmystreet.com Is open source and available for anyone to clone for Ireland but I don’t have the web creation skills to do it.

South Dublin County Council has created A report a fault where you can report broken street lights, potholes dumping etc, they don’t seem to be advertising it, but ESRI built system isn’t user friendly and doesn’t show you other peoples reports and display whether they are outstanding or resolved. Maybe Dublin councils won’t be in hurry to go completely transparent so even if Fingal County Council are developing a similar site, we still may needs a public one.
